Kan Tiden Miste Pusten? (Can time Lose Its Breath?) is an 18½ min. Danish short film, directed by Kathrine Vintersborg, about the quiet 7-year-old boy who processes the grief of losing his great grandfather by imagining one of his drawings coming to life as an extremely talkative cartoon balloon.

Doing the impossible

I was contacted by Kathrine Vintersborg when her scheduled animator unexpectedly had to cancel. 8 minutes and 20 seconds of animation had to be made and there was only one month to make it.

For most 2D animators this is simply not possible without making the animation extremely limited and stifling the performance.

However, I managed to animate all 8 minutes and 20 seconds on time, within budget, and without compromising the animated performance. Hell yeah!

Presentation by director Kathrine Vintersborg and 2D animator August “Poul” Niclasen (in Danish, no subtitles)
