Project
Deepness of the Fry
August “Poul” Niclasen
Deepness of the Fry is a 2019 graduation film from The Animation Workshop in Denmark, directed by me. The film was succesful in the international film festival circuit, and won several awards.
An experiment disguised as a film
Teamwork can be difficult on school projects, so how do you make sure people want to work on your short film?
Deepness of the Fry was an attempt to facilitate a production where every animator could make whatever they wanted. Between every cut, the film would switch to a new style and focus on entirely different characters.
The challenge would then be to edit together a coherent film with that visual premise. Based on the film’s reception, I would say it was a success.
I made the film together with Aylen Solander, Lilja B. Jökulsdöttir, Thinh Nguyen, and Timon Chapelon, with sound and music by Kiki Skovmand and Oliver Young.
